Report

Its been a while since I could be bothered to do a match report but seeing as the whole team played superbly I found the energy.

After the midweek news that the Skew have been re-instated to the Junior Cup due to Royals fielding an ineligible player int he 5-4 defeat the Skew were in fantastic spirits heading into the top of the table clash against rivals AFC Crown. Adam Smith, sick and tired of warming the bench for the 1st was drafted in and Adam Fitton was re-instated to the team at left back with James Hiller deputising for the injured Mclean.

Manager Izzard went with a strong 4-4-2 with the energy of Beazley, commitment of Firmin, tenacity of Crabtree and skill of Smith across the middle. A decision that would prove to be the making of an emphatic victory.

The first goal came from a clever pass to Smith from Crabtree, he took one touch, looked up and drove the ball past the keeper from around 20 yards.

The referee who had a poor game it has to be said then awarded AFC a penalty from a nothing challenge, after Phil and Hiller both time wasted and protested, the penalty was finally taken and dragged wide. Justice was served.

AFC mounted a small spell of pressure but Baines, Mark Hiller, Jones and the impressive Fitton were more the capable and dealt with everything superbly. Fitton after a few weeks or poor performance and attitude really looked the part at left back and should be very proud of his performance.

Facer then set up Lythgoe with a great Cross which he chested down and knocked into the corner. Half time 2-0

James Hiller got his second assist of the season when his long punt up field was misjudged by the centre half and Beazley slid in from a tight angle. Beazley now has 16 goals to his name, just 6 short of last years total, which for a player who often plays wide and often does nothing for 89 minutes is very impressive.

Crabtree then set up Facer for his first goal with a delicate chip which Facer finished from a tight angle before minutes later Facer scrapped and bundled in for his 2nd.

The goal of the game was saved for last, Nick Wood on for Beazley minutes earlier picked up the ball in his own half, speed through and skipped over two slidding challenges before squaring it to Smith to tap home from a yard out for his 2nd and the Skew’s 6th.

All that was left was some unsavoury behaviour from the AFC players and supporters who had been let out for the day. That can be put down to the fact they don’t have a brain cell between them and they had just been annihilated by a team they thought they could beat.

We are the Skew, we score when we want.
